Gazelle, the nation’s leading high-end consumer electronics trade-in site, today announced the extension of its industry leading 30-day price lock programto help consumers take full advantage of the anticipatednew iPhone launch. Customers who elect to trade-in their iPhone to Gazelle between today and August 31will now have until October 1 to send in their phone. This allows them to get pre-launch values for their used iPhone while continuing to use their phone until the new one is available, widely rumored to happen on September 21.

“The majority of consumers aren’t comfortable being without a phone for any amount of time,” said Sarah Welch, chief marketing officer for Gazelle. “But the value of used devices tends to be significantly higher before a new iPhone launches. This promotionallowsconsumers to lock in today’s valueandkeep their currentphoneuntil they have the new onein hand.”

To take advantage of the extended price lock, simply go to Gazelle.com, select “iPhone,” tell us what model and carrier you have,as well as the condition of your phone. We’ll quoteyou a price and send you shipping materials for free. If we get your old iPhoneby October 1,we’ll send you cash. Consumers are also encouraged to pre-order their new iPhone to be sure they can take advantage of this offer, since it can be hard to get your hands on the new iPhone in the early days of a launch.Consumers are under no obligation to send in their phone, so if predictions of the new iPhone launch date turn out to be wrong, there’s no risk to the consumer.

Gazelle, the nation’s leading high-end consumer electronics trade-in site, today announced the results of a survey illustrating the driving factors behind the decision to upgrade to the new iPhone. The survey consisted of more than 2,600 Gazelle customers who currently use an iPhone, Android, Blackberry or Windows mobile phone.

The rumors around the promise of a larger screen and thinner design were two leading reasons for consumers’ plans to upgrade to the new iPhone, with nearly 60 percent and 50 percent of respondents, respectfully, citing these reasons. An additional factor was pure excitement; nearly 90 percent of respondents stated they “felt an adrenaline rush” when they were looking at newer, better technology.

“The data from this survey supports our belief that the anticipated bodychange will result in an iPhone frenzy,” said Anthony Scarsella, chief gadget officer, Gazelle. “According to the survey, more than 83 percent of respondents are planning to upgrade to the new iPhone.”

Additional data from the survey includes:

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·<!--[endif]-->Thirty seven percent of respondents point to the lack of 4G/LTE support as the reason they want to get rid of their old devices.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·<!--[endif]-->More than 25 percent of respondents cited age, speed and the small screen as reasons for ditching their current devices.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·<!--[endif]-->Almost 45 percent of respondents cited the need for having “the latest and greatest” as a reason to upgrade.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·<!--[endif]-->Consumers have used a variety of excuses to upgrade in the past, including “the dog ate it” (7.1 percent), “it fell in the toilet” (9.1 percent), “I lost it” (15.5 percent), seeing fingerprints on the screen (21 percent) and “I didn’t have to pay for it” (35.7 percent).

“What many consumers don’t realize is that they can trade-in their used device for cash, offsetting the price of a new phone,” continued Scarsella. “Gazelle offers consumers a 30-day price lock guarantee, ensuring they can get pre-launch value for their device. We expect trade-in values of used devices to decrease as we get closer to the launch date for the new iPhone, so now is definitely the time to act.”

As cell phones and smartphones have become a bigger part of our lives, they’ve also caused us to develop some bad social habits that have the tendency to annoy everyone around us. DuringCell Phone Courtesy Month, Gazelle (Gazelle.com), the nation’s leading trade-in site for high-end consumer electronics, has provided essential tips for good cell phone behavior to remember all year around.

Cell phone courtesy goes beyond simply keeping your conversations short and voice level to a minimum.Gazelle’s tips for year-round Cell Phone Courtesy include:

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·<!--[endif]--> Keep personal and business details private by keeping them quiet. We’ve all seen (or known) the person who screams into his cell phone like it’s a tin can connected to a string. While it’s always a good idea to keep your voice down when talking on a cell phone in a crowded area, it’s even more important when sensitive personal or business information is involved. The person next to you at the airport really doesn’t want to hear about the ups-and-downs of your dating life, and revealing the details of that big business deal in the works could get you fired if it’s overheard by the wrong person.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·<!--[endif]--> Don’t insist on settling every argument by looking up the answer on your phone. While it’s nice to finally be able to settle barstool debates in real time, it’s best to avoid the urge to look everything up on your phone. Debate and discussion is fun, and nobody likes a know-it-all, anyway

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·<!--[endif]--> When at the gym, use your phone as a source of tunes, not as a way to conduct a meeting. Talking while on the treadmill or lifting weights is an easy way to get hurt – or make the bodybuilder next to you want to use you for arm curls. Avoid making calls at the gym, or, better yet, leave your phone in your locker.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·<!--[endif]--> Send a text instead of leaving a voicemail. These days, no one likes receiving voicemails. The next time you can’t reach someone by phone, try the Gentleman’s Maneuver: hang up before the beep and send a text instead. Chances are you’ll get a response much more quickly that way.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·<!--[endif]--> Don’t take your phone into the bathroom. A recent survey we conducted revealed that nearly 85% have used their phone while in the bathroom. Not only is this unsanitary practice off-putting to friends and co-workers, it can lead to unsightly damage caused by water… or something far, far worse.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·<!--[endif]--> Give your phone the protection it needs. Cell Phone Courtesy Month isn’t just about being mindful of others when using your phone; it’s also about taking good care of your phone itself. Be careful with your phone and purchase the right cover, case or screen protector to keep your phone free of scratches, nicks and water damage. This will not only keep your gadget functional and looking nice, it will protect its trade-in value.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·<!--[endif]--> When you’re ready for an upgrade, trade in your old phone. Did you know that even though it might not be brand new, your phone still has value? Whenever you’re ready for an upgrade, make sure you trade in your old phone. Not only is it courteous for the environment, the money you earn will have your wallet saying thank you, too.

“Being mindful of your phone and of others might seem like the obvious thing to do, but the ubiquity of smart phones has caused some less-than-courteous practices to spring up,”said Anthony Scarsella, Gazelle’s chief gadget officer. “As the nation’s leading trade-in site for high-end consumer electronics, we love smart phones, iPads and MacBooks. We want everyone to continue loving their consumer electronic devices by getting the most out of them . . .without making mortal enemies of those around us.”
